His time writing for organized publications persisted throughout 2022, while his freelance pieces were written in 2022 and 2023.

California’s electrical grid was pushed to unprecedented limits recently as the state suffered through a record-breaking heat wave and wildfires burned tens of thousands of acres across the already parched Golden State.

At least one segment of California’s power grid drew special attention — solar energy, which comprises about 15 percent of California’s power needs.

Solar-generated power has long been viewed by experts as an effective way — perhaps the most effective — to wean society from fossil-based fuels and curb climate-changing carbon emissions.

Pulse check: growing concern, negative outlook on the future of Sacramento housing

Take your pick of lists — on any of them Sacramento routinely ranks as one of the least affordable cities in the United States. And any number of polls shows, similarly, that housing affordability constitutes a major concern for residents in the greater Sacramento area who either want to be able to afford to buy a home, or fear that their children or grandchildren won’t be able to in the near future.

While the City of Sacramento was recently named the first jurisdiction in California to earn a Prohousing Designation from the California Department of Housing and Community Development — which will help the city’s efforts to develop more transit-friendly affordable units — for many local residents, buying a home remains out of reach.

How long does alcohol stay in your system? That depends on several factors.

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention says two-thirds of adults in 2018 drank alcohol. How much obviously varies, but no one wants to end the day with a DUI because they mistakenly believed they were sober when that was not the case.

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), an abundance of factors contributes to how long alcohol stays in your system. Misunderstanding these factors makes it difficult to tell whether you’re legally safe to be behind the wheel and can lead to tragic consequences.

Sacramento Zoo getting closer to possible Elk Grove relocation

The Sacramento Zoo is closer to finding a new home after the Elk Grove City Council on March 23 directed its staff to move forward on next steps, which include the development of a master design plan and comprehensive feasibility study.

Jason Jacobs, director and CEO of the Sacramento Zoo, and his team presented their vision for a larger, more capable zoo to the city council during the recent meeting, which came two weeks after a public town hall meeting on March 10 where the organization displayed the potential economic impact and feasibility of the new zoo.
